Our J. B. Barry and Partners Limited team, in collaboration with JBA Consulting, sign the contract for the Engineering and Environmental Consultancy Services for Bantry Flood Relief Scheme. We very much look forward to working with Cork County Council and the Office of Public Works on this important project for Bantry town.
Bantry, on the ‘Wild Atlantic Way’ in West Cork, provides commercial, retail and tourism/leisure facilities for an extensive coastal and inland catchment area. It is an important holiday and tourist centre for the scenic and coastal area that surrounds it and provides convenient access to Bantry Bay and the Beara and Sheep’s Head Peninsulas.
For Bantry, the main source of flooding has been primarily from high tides entering the local drainage network which creates sewer flooding and river flooding from the Bantry Stream and tributaries. Bantry is also especially prone to flash flooding from the numerous small, steep rivers that flow through the town.
In collaboration with Cork County Council, and in consultation with local businesses and the general public, our team will assess potential options, and recommend a preferred flood relief scheme option that is technically, socially, environmentally, and economically suitable for Bantry town.
