    Refurbishment & Extensions

Dublin City Council appointed us to provide Civil and Structural engineering services for the redevelopment and refurbishment of Dolphin House in Dolphins Barn, Dublin 8. Dolphins House was constructed in the early 1950’s and the previously existing residential units and site layout required upgrading and reconstruction to achieve compliance with current Development Plan / Building Regulation standards. The project included the redevelopment and refurbishment of three of the existing residential blocks into 63 modern apartment units. The existing green area between two of the blocks was enclosed by a new apartment block on the north side of the site, comprised of 14 apartments, to form an enclosed landscaped courtyard. On the south side, the two existing canal blocks were demolished and replaced by nine new houses facing the canal. A further two new apartment blocks, comprised of six and eight units, were constructed on either end of the existing eastern residential block. Particular concerns included Part M compliant site works, ties into existing drainage and schedule constraints on a sensitive high profile publicly funded project.
