    Our energy team have completed over 125 energy audits across Irish Water sites, including the top 50 energy consuming sites in the country. These energy audits were undertaken in accordance with EN 16427 and ISO 50002:2014 Energy Audits.

    Data gathering is carried out on site using available information from the SCADA system and on-site records. Live recordings of high energy consuming equipment is taken using a power meter whilst operating the equipment at the various duty points. Data logging for a 7-day period has also been conducted to identify operating profiles and ensure systems are operating as designed. Following the site visit and data gathering process, a report is compiled detailing the existing baseline energy consumption, energy balance and identifies any potential energy saving opportunities that could be realised for each site.

    Our in-depth knowledge of water, wastewater treatment and pumping stations enables us to identify process optimisation techniques to save energy and operating costs by simply altering the operation of the existing equipment. We identify financially feasible upgrades including pumps, air blowers and aeration grids using cost benefit analysis models to support the upgrade works.

    Measurement and Verification reports were completed for 8 sites upgraded using the recommendations of the above energy audit reports. Across these 8 sites the energy consumption was found to have reduced by 2.2GWh/year saving €330,000 in annual operating costs and reduction of 650 tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum.

    Notable sites that have been audited include Ballymore Eustace WTP, Osberstown WwTP, Leixlip WTP, Lee Road WTP, Pigeon House Road Foul Pumping Station serving Ringsend WwTP, Sutton Foul Pumping Station serving Ringsend WwTP, Malahide WwTP, Terryland WTP, Carrs Hill Pumping Station and Bunlicky WwTP among others.
