    Efficiency & Audits

Ringsend Main Lift Pumping Station (MLPS) is located at Pigeon House Road, Ringsend, Dublin 4 and forms a critical part of the overall Dublin Drainage Network. It pumps wastewater from the city centre, Rathmines & Pembroke, Grand Canal and the East Wall sewers to Ringsend WwTW. The MLPS was placed very high up on Irish Water’s RISK sites in terms of potential flooding of Dublin City due to the age of the existing pumps and significant electrical hazards on site. Our energy audit report highlighted significant opportunities for Dublin City Council (DCC) and Irish Water (IW) to save energy, particularly in the areas of pumping.

Our work involves the replacement of existing pumps, creation of new fire suppression and alarm systems and creation of energy management systems, along with other upgrades, in an effort to improve performance and energy efficiency while simultaneously increasing sustainability at the largest pumping station in Ireland. Upon completion of our work, the station’s pumping elements and all electrical components will be modernised with additional benefits, including reducing carbon emissions and the risk of failure at the site. Additionally, there is an expected energy savings of 1.9GWh per annum and an expected reduction in CO2 emissions by 570 tonnes per year.
