Grand Canal Dock Surface Water Outfall, Dublin
EIA Coordination
A study carried out by us in 1992 identified possible alternative options for re-routing the stormwater discharge away from the Docks and into the River Liffey. A preferred option was identified, cost estimates were prepared, and the implementation of the proposed project was recommended. Phase 1 of this project was completed in 2002 where a 170m long 4.0 x 2.7m box culvert was constructed underneath Asguard Road, between Hanover Quay and Sir John Rogerson’s Quay (SJRQ).
In late 2019, we were appointed by Dublin City Council and Irish Water to manage and deliver the planning application for Phase 2 of this project which involves the connection of the Grand Canal Storm Water Tunnel to the box culvert completed as part of Phase 1, and the construction of the outlet structure into the River Liffey at SJRQ.
The Section 226 planning application along with the Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) and other relevant surveys and assessments for the proposed development has been managed and prepared by our planning and environmental team in conjunction with a team of sub-consultants. The planning application & EIAR was submitted to An Bord Pleanala and we await their decision.
