Amasya is a historical city in northern Turkey in the Black Sea Region. It is located approximately 350 kilometres east of Ankara. The WWTP site has an area of 3.5 hectares and is located on the west bank of the Yeşilırmak River approximately 5 km downstream from Amasya city center, within the administrative boundaries of the Municipality of Ziyaret.

The project involved the provision of Technical Assistance in the form of capacity building to the Amasya Municipality in Turkey to modernise their operations and in particular their level of service in the provision of water and wastewater infrastructure services, and the supervision of construction for Water and Wastewater pipelines (design complete) and for a completely new Wastewater Treatment Plant (design-build).

The WWTP was planned to be constructed in two stages. Stage I is designed to meet projected demand and it is planned that the WWTP will be extended in the future (Stage II). The process design capacities of both stages are WWTP Capacity - Stage I: 12,126 m3/day (P.E. 116,600) and WWTP Capacity - Stage II: 17,748 m3/day (P.E.147,900).

Key features of this project include:

    • Pressure zoning of the water distribution network (approx. 34 District Metering Areas))
    • New Valves, Hydrants & House Connections
    • 1st stage of WWTP (Extended Aeration) to cater for forecast needs to 2025 (116,600PE / 78,705m3/day)
    • 100km wastewater collection network, pumping stations and new interceptor sewer to the WWTP
    • 5km interceptor sewer with inverted siphon
    • Supervision of Contractor’s Training and WWTP Testing & Performance during 1-year DNP.
