J. B. Barry and Partners Limited and Barry Transportation are please three of our projects have been shortlisted in the ACEI Engineering Excellence Awards 2023.
The first project shortlisted is the Lee Road Water Treatment Plant in Co. Cork in the Civil - Medium category. The Waterworks is the oldest, continuously used municipal water supply installation in Ireland. Parts of the plant date as far back as 1760s, and between then and now, an uninterrupted supply of water from the River Lee has been pumped into reservoirs on the adjacent hillside to serve Cork City’s demand. JBB were appointed by Irish Water to undertake the specimen design, tender and construction supervision of the Lee Road Water Treatment plant upgrade project. The objective was to construct an upgraded Water Treatment Plant with an increase in the design capacity from 36MLD to 40MLD. The existing WTP remained in operation during the upgrade.
The second project shortlisted is the Laney and Sullane River Bridges, which are part of the N22 Macroom Bypass in Co. Cork in the Structural - Medium category. The Laney River Bridge is a fully integral single span river bridge carrying the N22 Mainline over the Laney River. The superstructure is supported on reinforced concrete abutments supported on a piled foundation. The bridge is now the longest single span prestressed concrete bridge in the UK or Ireland. The Sullane River Bridge is a fully integral two-span river bridge carrying the N22 Mainline over the Sullane River. The superstructure is supported on reinforced concrete abutments and an intermediate pier with five 900 mm diameter columns.
The third project shortlisted is the Main Lift Pump Station Pigeon House Road in Co. Dublin in the Mechanical and Electrical - Medium Category. The Main Lift Pump Station (MLPS) is one of Dublin City’s most critical pieces of network infrastructure. The station receives the majority of wastewater and stormwater from the Dublin City network and surrounding areas and pumps forward to the Ringsend wastewater plant for treatment and discharge to Dublin Bay.
Best of luck to all the project teams!
