Castleconnell Flood Relief Scheme, Limerick

    Flooding

Castleconnell is located approximately 10km north-east of Limerick City and the River Shannon forms the western boundary of the village. Given the rate of flow in the river during flood conditions, Castleconnell is susceptible to fluvial flood risk. Castleconnell and the surrounding area was badly flooded in 2009 and 2015 following a period of prolonged rainfall.

We were appointed by Limerick City and County Council to assess, develop and design a flood relief scheme (FRS) for Castleconnell. The Catchment Flood Risk and Management Study identified this area as an Area for Further Assessment (AFA) and concluded an FRS would be appropriate and effective for the community. Upon completion, the risks associated with flooding will be minimised for the existing community, social amenity, environment and landscape.

Further information on the progress of this scheme can be found at https://www.limerick.ie/council/services/water-and-drainage/flooding-related-schemes-and-assistance/castleconnell-flood
