We are currently developing a targeted multi-modal transport solution for Donegal through Phases 1 to 4 of the Transport Infrastructure Ireland Project Management Guidelines, which includes Project Appraisal, Feasibility Studies, Option Selection, Design, Environmental Impact Assessment and Statutory Processes. The project proposed is a multi-modal sustainable and essential transport solution that provides for road, public transport (bus), active travel and modal shift between the various transport forms. Key outcomes achieved by the project include Enhanced Regional and Rural Accessibility, Decarbonisation, Sustainable Compact Growth coupled with strong Shared Island cross-border connectivity to support the development of a strong self-sufficient but linked Northwest City Region.

The project has three distinct sections and all there are listed in the NDP 2021 to 2030 as key programme deliverables. These are:

    Section 1 – N15/N13 Ballybofey/Stranorlar Bypass

    Section 2 – N56/N13 Letterkenny to Manorcunningham

    Section 3 – N14 Manorcunningham to Lifford/Strabane/A5

The TEN-T Priority Route Improvement Project, Donegal has progressed from Phase 1 Concept and Feasibility through Phase 2 Option Selection where a Constraints study and Option Selection report were prepared and subsequently, a preferred option was identified for each respective section of the project. This preferred option has been developed, during Phase 3, in line with current government policy, legislation and design standards to a comprehensive design to inform the landtake and Environmental impacts of the project.
