South Dublin County Council appointed us as their consultant and designer for the construction and handover stages for the Citywest Road and Fortunestown Lane junction works. The services consisted of fulfilling the roles of PSDP, Designer, Employer's Representative and Resident Engineer during these stages.

This project upgraded a roundabout junction into a fully signalised junction.  The scheme works improve the public realm by providing upgraded footpaths, pedestrian and cycle space, improved drainage measures, new service ducting, additional landscaping, improved signage and new MOVA controlled signalisation with pedestrian crossings. It provided improvements at this junction which is used heavily by pedestrians and cyclists, including school pupils travelling to several primary and secondary schools located in the vicinity of the proposed scheme. The Citywest Shopping Centre and several existing and future residential developments are also near the junction. Overall, this project significantly improved safety for road users at the junction.

Additionally, drainage and foul sewers were constructed across the junction to facilitate future development in the area. Significant constraints were negotiated as part of the works in terms of underground high voltage ESB lines, a substantial amount of other existing underground services and the adjacent LUAS line. The works also included the provision of 12 bus stops and associated pedestrian crossing along Fortunestown Lane to the east of the junction for the new 175 bus route.
